In today’s digital age, a website is essential for reaching a global audience. While creating a website often involves programming languages like C++, JavaScript, HTML, and Python, website builders offer a simpler alternative, allowing you to create a responsive website without coding knowledge. Blogger is a platform that enables you to build a free website and provides a free subdomain. However, a custom domain name is crucial for establishing credibility and attracting a wider audience. This blog post will guide you through connecting a domain name purchased from Hostinger to your Blogger website. (Click here to learn how to purchase a domain from Hostinger.)
Connecting Your Domain Name to Blogger
To begin, ensure your purchased domain is activated. Then, navigate to your Blogger dashboard and open the “Settings” section. Scroll down to the “Publishing” section. You’ll see your current Blogger address (the free subdomain). To connect a custom domain, click on “Custom domain.”
Copy your domain name from Hostinger and paste it into the “Custom domain” field in Blogger. Alternatively, you can purchase a domain directly through Blogger if you haven’t already. After entering your domain name, save the changes.
Next, go to your Hostinger account. In the “Domains” section, locate your domain and open its DNS/Nameservers settings. It’s crucial to delete all existing DNS records before proceeding. This step is essential; any errors in creating or editing DNS records can prevent your domain from functioning correctly.
Adding New DNS Records
After deleting the previous records, return to Blogger and follow the instructions for verifying your domain ownership. This will provide you with specific values you’ll need for your DNS records.
Now, go back to Hostinger’s DNS management page.
- First CNAME Record:
- Change the “Type” to “CNAME.”
- Copy the “Name” (usually “www”) from Blogger and paste it into the “Name” field in Hostinger.
- Copy the “Destination” from Blogger and paste it into the “Target” field in Hostinger.
- Leave the TTL (Time To Live) setting as default and click “Add Record.”
- Second CNAME Record:
- Repeat the CNAME process. Copy the “Name” and “Destination” from Blogger and paste them into the “Name” and “Target” fields in Hostinger, respectively.
- A Records (Google IPs):
- Blogger will also instruct you to add four Google IP addresses. You can find these on the same Blogger page or by clicking here.
- For each IP address:
- Change the “Type” to “A.”
- Enter “@” in the “Name” field.
- Paste the IP address into the “Points To” field.
- Click “Add Record.”
- You may encounter an error message due to using the same name (“@”) for multiple records. This is expected; proceed and add all four IPs with the same name and type.
After creating all the necessary DNS records, return to Blogger and save your settings. It may take up to an hour (or sometimes longer) for the DNS changes to propagate. Once this process is complete, your domain name will be successfully connected to your Blogger website and accessible to users worldwide.
